Important Changes
Membership Costs, Annual Meeting Costs, Registration Procedures, and Website Access

Dear Academy of Homiletics Members:

Ritual theorists are fond of thinking about liminal time - that time in between the way things used to be and the way things will be.  Your Executive Committee is likewise fond of thinking in terms of liminality.  Change is again the word of the day for the Academy of Homiletics.  Below I outline changes in membership costs, annual meeting costs, registration procedures, and website access.  Yes, read through this material carefully.

This year we have increased our dues and fees.  These increased costs do not help us make money but merely enable us to pay the annual meeting costs.  Hotels continue to raise their costs and set minimum requirements for conference food expenses.  Both Registration Fees and Member Dues fund the annual meeting.

This year we have gone online.  By moving Registration and Members’ Dues payment online we enable credit card payment, which has been a long time request of many members.  These online payments are secure and activate an instant confirmation page, another long time request.  This system is more user-friendly to our international members and parallels how other guilds accept payments from members for dues and annual meeting fees.

This year we will change username and password.  Members need the username and password to access the members’ only portion of our website.  By changing the access code we ensure that members stay up to date with dues in order to support the work of the Academy.  This also helps us keep the membership roster up to date.  The new username and password are sent as a part of the online confirmation page.  Be sure to save it and print it out for reference.

At a glance:

  • Persons inquiring about membership must complete the online membership inquiry form.  Upon receipt of membership confirmation new members pay Member Dues and register for the Annual Meeting online.
  • All members and new members pay annual Member Dues regardless of whether or not they attend the Annual Meeting
  • Persons attending the Annual Meeting will pay Member Dues and Annual Meeting Registration Fee, and Banquet Fee (should they choose to attend the Banquet)

Registration for the Annual Meeting
Online registration  is required for all participants.  To register online for the Annual Meeting, please go to the Member News section of this website and follow the link for member dues payment and annual meeting registration.  The Annual Meeting begins early evening Thursday, December 3rd and concludes with the Banquet on Saturday evening, December 5th.

Membership Inquiries
Persons inquiring about membership must complete the online membership inquiry form.  Upon receipt of membership confirmation new members pay Member Dues and register for the Annual Meeting online.  Our members include those persons who have taught or who are teaching preaching, and those who are enrolled in Ph.D. programs in homiletics.

Member Dues for Associate and Full Members of the Academy
Membership dues are paid online.  The link to the payment portal can be found in the Members Section of this website.  You are able to pay Member Dues even if you are not registering for the Annual Meeting.  Associate members are those persons who have retired from teaching or who are in a Ph.D. program in homiletics.  All others are Full Members.

Membership Dues and Annual Meeting Fees
Full Member Dues     $75
Associate Member Dues   $35 (students and retired members)
Registration Fee for Annual Meeting  $150
Banquet at Annual Meeting   $60

Username and Password Change
When members pay membership dues the automated confirmation page will include the new username and password granting access to the members’ section of the website.

These are the changes and instructions.  We look forward to our gathering, this year in Washington D.C.

Sincerely,
Jennifer L. Lord
Treasurer, Academy of Homiletics
